View Across The Dugout – Sheffield United v Aston Villa ft The Shoreham View

Aston Villa travel to Bramall Lane in the hunt for three points to kick-start a busy and ever-important run of winter fixture.

Sheffield United, who were of course promoted from the Championship alongside us last season have taken the Premier League by storm and have seemingly “done a Wolves” (if that’s what we’re calling a newly promoted side winning some games?), which has seen Chris Wilder’s side reach 8th in the league.

Recent form:

Out of their last five games, the Blades have only managed to win one (2-1 win to Norwich City), draw three and lose one. During this run of draws they faced Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In these previous 5 games, United have scored 7 goals, and conceded 8.

Previous meetings:

If recent history is anything to go by, this fixture promises to have it all. We’ve got the iconic comeback from 3-0 down at Villa Park, to getting rolled over 4-1 at the Lane, and the last minute scenes of Snoddy bending it in the top corner to seal three points. one thing is for sure, today’s clash will certainly be filled with goals.

The oppositions view:

This week we have enlisted the help of The Shoreham View (@TheShorehamView) to help us out with our preview.

For those of us who watched championship football last season, it’s come as no surprise that Sheffield United look set to avoid relegation. Did you, however, believe that you’d leave such a mark on the Premier League? Have you been shocked with your season so far?

My head says that this is an amazing bonus, that doing so well is a ride we have to enjoy while it lasts and that finishing anything above fourth bottom is a bonus! My heart says, this is no shock, the renaissance under Wilder just go’s on and on! Look what Brian Clough did with Derby, with Forest, look what Ranieri did with Leicester, does the ride really have to ever end? Only Rilke will tell but as Blade’s we will enjoy every second!

Chris Wilder is a seriously underrated manager. What does it mean to the people of Sheffield to have a Sheffield man at the helm, performing exceptionally?

We are the luckiest fans in the country, not only do we have the messiah, but the messiah is one of us! And as far as passion and pride and bottle coupled with determination can get you, we wouldn’t be ware we are without a very talented manager who has had to graft from the basement upwards! With him and Alan Knill at the helm we literally have hit the jackpot! They are a 21st century Clough and Taylor!

John Lundstram has been a player who has caught the eyes of most FPL users. How good has he been this season?

The rise of Lundstram has been a surprise to everyone except the management! I do believe the way we have tweaked the system and the football in the Top flight suits JL far batter than the style we played in the Championship! And this lad just gets better and better!

Realistically, what are your expectations come the end of the season?

Anything above fourth bottom is a bonus for The Blades, but I’ll be renewing my passport, because we dare to dream!

This fixture promises to be a cracking watch if recent history is much to go off. A 4-1 victory for yourselves at Bramall Lane last season and a 3-3 at Villa Park which consisted of a catastrophic collapse from yourselves. How do you see it panning out this time?

In all honesty it is too hard to tell, I honestly can not see either of our games being classics and the rest of the League will turn their noses up at the games, because i don’t think many will argue both managers will be up for this one and both teams will go at it full throttle! Don’t expect a goal fest, but expect commitment and fight from both teams!

How can we expect you to line up?

Unchanged from Norwich all being well!

What have you made of Villa’s season so far?

Villa have had a decent start, better than Norwich and many others, I think the biggest problem shown this season is holding onto a lead! But the team as don’t look out of place in the top flight!

Can we get a score prediction?

Absolutely not!
