Playoff Final defeat, 26th May 2018

For as long as I can remember! All of my life.

What is your first memory of the club?

My first memory is my first game I attended at Villa Park, sat in the upper North Stand as we played Portsmouth in a 3-0 win back in 2004. With goals from Peter Whittingham, Juan Pablo Angel and Nobby Solano, it got me hooked on the Villa – though it was rather loud for me and I had to wear earplugs. Now I’m making all the noise!

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

Favourite memory? This is a tough one! It would probably be Gabby Agbonlahors goal against the blues in the derby in the 16/17 season in the Championship. Villa Park erupted and I’ve not heard anything like it, Viva Agbonlahor.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

This is another tough one… Whilst I loved Juan Pablo Angel (and use to run around with my very own headband similar to his!), I also love Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor – but, being a defender myself it would have to be the big Swede, Olof Melberg!

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

If  you aren’t aware, I run Birkir Bjarnason & Elmohamady propaganda pretty much… two of my current favourite Villa players. Of course I love Grealish and Adomah, but Birkir edges it for me. Please stay Birkir.

Where do you sit at Villa Park?

I am a season ticket holder in the upper North Stand, T4!

Cal

Cal drinking to forget the playoff final defeat… (right)

I have supported Villa since I knew what football was and long may that continue.

What is your first memory of the club?

My first Villa memory is being at Villa Park and watching Nobby Solano score a fantastic free kick in what I believe was a 2-2 draw. It was a very entertaining match and slightly precedes my next memory which was Villa beating Inter Milan 4-1 in a pre-season friendly.

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

My favourite Villa goal has to be the Lowton wonder volley against Stoke. It certainly wasn’t my favourite game but I had been exaggerating Lowton’s ability for that entire season (in hindsight very wrongly as he could not defend) and that volley was just an insane moment for me. In terms of my favourite experience it was probably the nail-biting playoff win this season; I have never been to a game with a better atmosphere despite the horrifically tense situation and the whole experience was unforgettable.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

My favourite Villa player of all time has to be Benteke. Carew was the other possibility but he did not carry the team in the way that the big Belgian did and his celebration is simply iconic.

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

My current favourite Villa player is Grealish; for me he is a unique talent and if we do lose him this summer it will be more gutting than losing the playoff final. I love a good cliche and Grealish is the ultimate player to use them on.

Where do you sit at Villa Park?

I sit in the Holte end, lower or upper, but tend to move about as I don’t have a season ticket yet.

How long have you supported Aston Villa?

My support for Villa goes back to when I first started watching football at the 1994 World Cup. My curiosity for the game built into following and playing it from the beginning of the 1994-95 season. Growing up in a household in Wolverhampton to a dad who was an armchair supporter of Wolves and a Dutch mother who supported Ajax and grew up through the Total Football era, it was only natural that I chose to support Aston Villa (go figure, right?). I can’t pinpoint an exact moment I chose to support them, just that I took a liking to them and that grew into suppurating them when my mom told me football was more enjoyable if you supported a team (thanks mom). I still bring up that life advice after every painful defeat.

What is your first memory of the club?

Whilst I was aware of Villa winning the league cup against Manchester United in 1994 watching it on TV, I wasn’t fully cognitive of supporting them yet, that came the following season. It was a progression over that season that started in earnest when we beat Inter Milan on penalties in the UEFA Cup, but my first memories of really being a developing fan came with two bonkers games, a 4-4 draw with Leicester City, where we’d been 4-1 up at one stage and a 7-1 win at home to Wimbledon. After that I was hooked. Even if we did nearly get relegated that season.

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

I’ve had a number of enjoyable times supporting Villa in my lifetime. Watching Villa win the Coca-Cola Cup against Leeds United sitting at home fixated on the television in my Villa shirt is particularly fond. In person, the crazy 6-4 win over Blackburn Rovers in 2010 was great fun; celebrating the late winner from Gabby at St Andrew’s in 2007 and ending up several rows in front of me without knowing how I got there; or the familial experience of watching Villa beat my mom’s beloved Ajax 2-1 in the Europa League with Dutch family travelling over for the occasion will always be a very fond once in a lifetime memory for me.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

There have been a number of talented players that I have seen grace the hallowed turf of Villa Park. I was fortunate enough to watch the tail end of Paul McGrath’s Villa career controlling the defence, a role also played by another big favourite, Martin Laursen. I was also a fan of the workman like and professional midfield performances of James Milner. I was devastated when Luc Nilis broke his leg and we were robbed of a player who had the ability to be our Dennis Bergkamp, he might easily have been my favourite player. I guess I’m indecisive is what this says.

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

It would be difficult to look past Jack Grealish from the current squad as my favourite, just in terms of being an enjoyable player to watch play football, but aside from him it would be James Chester, an effortlessly calm defender who makes his role seem so easy at times. There’s something admirable about his quietly efficient presence on the pitch. There’s a lot of admirable traits about him as a player.

Where do you sit at Villa Park?

I’ve been sitting in the same place for 14 years; in Block M4 of the Doug Ellis Lower, in line with the edge of the box towards the Holte End.

For as long as i can remember. I have loads of kids shirts from when I was just a toddler. I’ve never known anything different.

What is your first memory of the club?

My first ever game. I was 5 and the game was on the 16th December 2000. It was a home game against Man City and we drew 2-2. Dublin and Ginola scored and I think Paulo Wanchope got one for City.

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

It’s hard to say, I’d have to open it up to three moments. The league cup semi-final home leg against Blackburn – I’ve never heard Villa Park that loud before or since. Gabby scoring in 2016/17 against Blues at home. Beating Liverpool 2-1 in the FA Cup semi in 2015.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

There’s a lot. Laursen. Angel. Carew. Young. But my all time favourite player would have to be Dion Dublin, I use to always get the number 9 on the back of my shirts because of him!

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

Jack Grealish, that one is easy. That’s if he stays with us. I’ve not seen anyone at Villa with the natural skill he has before.

Where do you sit at Villa Park?

Upper Holte. K3.

How long have you supported Aston Villa?

I have supported Villa for 21 years now. My uncle bought me a Man Utd shirt for my 5th birthday but it was too big. So, I took it back to JJB Sports and swapped it for a full Villa kit. I was hooked from that moment on.

What is your first memory of the club?

There were definitely other games before this, but the first full game I really remember was beating Arsenal 3-2, in December 1998. It was such a great game, and an amazing comeback, which helped keep us top of the league by Christmas. The win was made even better by the strength of Arsenal’s team that day!

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

My favourite all time Villa memory is really hard to choose. A few of the best moments were the obvious Villa 5-1 Blues, the last minute wonder-volley from outside the area, from Zat Knight, to rescue a draw against Arsenal and a very last minute Christian Benteke penalty to give Tim Sherwood his first PL victory against the Albion. My favourite moment has to be the 2-1 victory against Liverpool at Wembley, in the FA Cup semi-final. What a great day that was…and let’s not talk about the final.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

I don’t even have to think about this one. It has to be the legend that is Juan Pablo Angel. What a guy! Next…

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

My favourite current Villa player has to be Jack Grealish. He is the most gifted footballer we have had in a long while and he just makes the game look so easy. I have never seen a player look so comfortable on the ball, especially in potentially dangerous areas. Also, I have never seen anybody look like they have so much time on the ball, even when he is being put under so much pressure. I really hope he remains a Villa player for a long time.

Ollie Mason, with a fan.

I have supported Aston Villa since I was born despite my first ever kit as a baby being a Lazio one for some reason… I was in awe of Villa as a little boy but the passion has grown so much over the years.

What is your first memory of the club?

First Villa memory was probably when we beat Spurs at Villa Park, no idea of the year but Laursen and Melberg both netted (as far as I remember) a great day despite me being very young and not having a clue!

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

My personal favourite memory was the 4-3 win over West Brom at Villa Park. A cool, calm and collective Christian Benteke stepped up to the mark and finished the perfect penalty to win the game despite a snake own goal and a 2 goal deficit. Hoping for some more memories to be made, fingers crossed soon.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

It has to be Stan Petrov. An absolute gent and all round legend in my eyes. I had the privilege of being his mascot back in 2006 in the good old days. I’ll always remember him taking the time to chat to me and make me feel happy. What happened to him was a nightmare but he still works to give everyone hope. I wish he came back to play for us but that chapter has closed.

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

Jack Grealish without a doubt!

Where do you sit at Villa Park?

L5 in the Holte End. An insane stand surrounded by some lovely fans and a good community atmosphere. No where better to be on a derby day too!

What is your first memory of the club?

My first memory was a 2-0 win against Wimbledon, Ian Taylor got the second goal!

What is your favourite Villa memory of all time?

My favourite memory was when I was in the away end for Gabby’s goal against the Blues in stoppage time! Limbs.

Who is your all time favourite Villa player?

It has to be Martin Laursen!

Who is your current favourite Villa player?

Scotty Hogan.

Where do you sit at Villa Park?

Only one place to sit for me, Lower Holte End!
